THE BILLIONAIRE THAT HATED LOVE (20+)Chapter 10 of 25
CHAPTER 10: THE PERSON BEHIND EVERYTHING
THE BILLIONAIRE THAT HATED LOVE (20+)

The room went silent.
Not the peaceful kind of silence.
The kind that comes right before something breaks.
Ava looked at the person standing in the doorway.
And her heart dropped.
Because she knew them.
Someone she had trusted.
Someone she never expected to fear.
"Mr. Carter?"
Her voice was barely a whisper.
Damien looked at her.
Then at the older man standing there.
His expression changed immediately.
"You know him?"
Ava couldn't answer.
Because she was trying to understand how the man who had helped her after her father's downfall...
The man who had listened to her.
The man who had told her to keep fighting...
Was standing inside a hidden room full of Laurent family secrets.
Charles Carter stepped into the room.
Calm.
Unbothered.
Like he belonged there.
"Hello, Ava."
Damien's eyes narrowed.
"You know her?"
Charles looked at him.
A small smile appeared.
"Of course I do."
Ava felt sick.
"Why are you here?"
Charles looked around the room.
"Because it was always going to end here."
Damien stepped forward.
"Answer the question."
The smile disappeared.
And for the first time...
Charles looked serious.
"I came because you finally found the truth."
Julian moved immediately.
"Damien, don't listen to him."
Charles looked at Julian.
Almost disappointed.
"Still protecting your brother?"
Julian's face hardened.
"You don't get to talk about family."
The tension between them was obvious.
They weren't strangers.
They knew each other.
They had history.
Ava looked at Damien.
"Who is he?"
Damien didn't answer.
Because he was asking himself the same question.
Charles walked toward the desk.
"The problem with secrets..."
He picked up the old documents.
"...is that people always think they can control them."
Damien's voice was cold.
"What did you do?"
Charles looked at him.
"What I had to do."
Ava stepped closer.
"My father lost everything because of you."
Charles looked at her.
And his expression softened.
That somehow made it worse.
"No, Ava."
A pause.
"Your father lost everything because he chose the wrong side."
Her eyes filled with anger.
"You don't know anything about my father."
Charles sighed.
"I knew your father better than you ever did."
The words hit hard.
Ava froze.
"What does that mean?"
Nobody answered.
Then Damien spoke.
"What was the agreement?"
Charles looked at him.
"The one your father and hers created."
Ava's breathing stopped.
"There was no agreement."
Charles smiled sadly.
"There was."
He looked between them.
"Twenty-five years ago, your families built an alliance."
Damien frowned.
"An alliance?"
"Two powerful families working together."
Charles pointed at the files.
"The company."
"The investments."
"The influence."
Then his eyes moved to Ava.
"And eventually..."
"You two."
Ava stepped back.
"No."
Charles continued.
"They believed if their children joined forces, nobody could destroy what they built."
Damien looked disgusted.
"You planned our lives?"
"No."
Charles shook his head.
"Your fathers did."
The room fell quiet.
Because the truth was worse than they expected.
Their lives had been arranged like business deals.
Not love.
Not choice.
Ava looked at Damien.
And for the first time...
She wondered if their feelings were even their own.
"You knew about me."
Damien looked at Charles.
"You knew Ava existed."
Charles nodded.
"Yes."
"Why hide it?"
A long silence.
Then Charles answered:
"Because someone was trying to kill her."
Ava froze.
"What?"
Damien's expression changed.
"Who?"
Charles looked toward the window.
"The same person who tried to destroy Julian."
Ava felt the room spinning.
"Who is it?"
Charles looked back at them.
And his next words changed everything.
"The person who has been helping you."
Damien went still.
Ava's heart raced.
"No."
Charles nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"Youโ€™re lying."
"I wish I was."
A pause.
Then Charles whispered:
"The person giving you information..."
"The person guiding your investigation..."
"The person you thought was on your side..."
Is the reason your families were destroyed."
Silence.
Ava looked at Damien.
Damien looked at Julian.
And suddenly every conversation.
Every clue.
Every moment.
It felt different.
Because the enemy wasn't just close.
The enemy had been helping them search.
Then Damien's phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A voice came through.
A voice they all recognized.
A voice that made Julian's face lose all color.
"Damien..."
A pause.
"Stop listening to them."
Damien froze.
Because it was the person they least expected.
The person they trusted most.
