Maxine's Pov;
I saw sparkles in his eyes as soon as I said that. 

I also felt my heart skip a beat in response, feeling so shy and nervous.

"Um...are you sure about it?" He asked, and all I could do was nod.

Then, he smiled and dipped his hand into his trouser pocket, bringing out the ring box and opening it in front of me.

He pulled out the ring, took my hand and slipped it through my engagement finger.

Oh God!

"Thank you, Maxine", he said with a smile and did away with the empty box.

But somehow, I felt bad because he was actually getting married to me for the company alone.
Because he urgently needed a wife.

"Um...so, have you decided on what to eat?" He asked as he took hold of the mug again.

"Uh...not really. I think I just need some rest for now," I replied and moved deeper into the bed.

"Sorry, Maxine. Can I...get a kiss from you?" He asked, and my eyes beamed.

Huh?

I stared at him - speechless and surprised - and he smiled and drew closer, planting a soft kiss on my lips.

Oh my Gosh!

"Goodnight. I'll come check up on you later," he replied and stood up after covering me up with the duvet.

I didn't say a word and watched him leave.

Yes! Yes! I knew she was gonna do it! 

Perfect!

I chuckled as I walked into my room, feeling proud and hopeful about everything falling into place, which made me eager for what's next.

Ahhh

Finally, everything's falling into place, and I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness about seeing her again after so long.

I reached for my phone and put a call through to Dad. And thankfully, he picked up at the right time.

☎Noah," he called immediately, like he was expecting my call or something.

☎Hey, pupsy. What's up?" I asked cheerfully and could tell he was definitely surprised.

☎I'm....fine. Is everything okay?"

☎Yes, yes, of course. Everything's perfectly fine. I'm calling to remind you of the dinner tomorrow. I hope everything's still in place?" I asked.

☎Well...of course. We're waiting. You seem pretty excited, Noah. Who's She?" He asked, and I laughed.

☎Don't worry, Dad. You'll get to know her tomorrow," I replied and dropped the call.

Hmm.

'By the weekend, we should be married', I thought with a smile.

I was helping Ella out with her assignments when my phone rang.

"Hold on, baby", I told her as I reached for the phone and received the call.

It was Rex.

☎Hello?" I said tiredly.

☎Hi, Audrey. What's up?" He replied breezily.

☎Yeah, I'm fine and you?" 

☎ I'm great, but honestly, I feel anxious about the dinner tomorrow and whether I should go or not, which makes me hesitant and unsure.

☎But Rex.. Is it really necessary for me to come? I..."

☎Come on, Audrey. It's just for fun. It's just house stuff - having dinner with me, my parents and..."
He suddenly paused, and I scoffed.

☎And Noah? Will Noah be there?" I asked, and he muttered a "yeah".

☎Well, I don't really see it as a big deal because it's just Noah. Besides, you used to be the best couple. So, it's no big deal to drop by and say hi to him. Come on, Audrey. It's been years now".

I exhaled deeply and stared up at the ceiling.

Noah...

☎Okay... fine. I'll be there," I replied and felt him smile.

☎Awesome. Thank you, Audrey. I'll check up on you later".

☎Okay. Bye"
And I dropped the call.

Gosh! Am I really ready to see Noah?

It's been over 5 years already now.
Although...I wouldn't deny missing him.

I itched my head and cogitated for a while.

Well...I guess I'll just go for it anyway.
