CHAPTER 28
THE PLOT TO ASSASSINATE THE VICE PRESIDENT

“Are they not reckoning that once nothing happened to the Vice President within 24 hours, we shall realize you failed and therefore go underground to strike at another time?” Kruger asked.
“They recognized that so they said the Vice-President would feign sickness for two days to make you believe I succeeded. Then based on the information I would give them, they would round you all up” she said, deciding that partially stating the truth will make Kruger believe her.
“I see” Kruger noted.
“Can you put the gun away, please?” Gloria appealed.
“Not until you have told me the truth. Did you mention our names to them?” he asked.
“I said no and I can swear to that,” Gloria said. This was another lie. However, Kruger believed she was telling the truth.
“And what was the name of the soldier?” he asked.
“I don’t know. He was not even in uniform but the Vice-President called him lieutenant. That is why I said he was a soldier” Gloria replied.
“Okay, get out of the car. You are not going with me again. I am leaving you here to find your own way home,” Kruger said, lowering the gun.
Though disappointed, Gloria was relieved that Kruger was allowing her to go; making her way back to the main road was not going to be difficult.
She opened the door and stepped out of the car. She took a couple of steps back and stood staring at Kruger. Suddenly, he raised the gun again, pointing it at her and before she could say anything, fired five shots at her body. The cleaner clutched at her chest, her eyes wide opened in shock. She then reeled back before falling down.
“Dead people don’t talk” Kruger said as he got out of the car and walked to the body. He pointed the gun at the body again and let go of three bullets into her head. Then he went back to his car, got in and drove away.
He drove to the rendezvous where the group was to meet immediately after Gloria had successfully smeared the handles of the desk of the Vice President’s cabinets and drawers. Monies were going to be giving out to every member of the gang. Members will then disperse, go their separate ways and stay out of public focus until the Deputy National Security Coordinator, as leader of the group, gets in touch with them.
The rendezvous was a national security safe house at Adenta. The gates electronically operated with electrical charges powering it from within the house for Kruger before he even got to them. Therefore, without stopping, he drove in and parked. A signboard in front of the building read “Asthma Foundation”. This was to hide the identity of the place.
After parking the car, Kruger got down and walked into the main hall. The rest of the gang members gathered around the table having breakfast. Everyone turned to look at him when he entered. There were smiles on all the faces. However, his demeanour saw the smiles vanishing in seconds.
“Well, Kruger, why the gloomy face? Did Gloria carry out the plan? Where is she anyway?” Rex Yamoah, seated at the far end of the dining table, asked.
“I blew her brains off” Kruger replied curtly. There were gasps and looks of surprises all around him.
